Music
At Weston Rhyn Primary School, we believe that every child should have the chance to enjoy music, make music and perform in front of others.
Our music curriculum helps children build their skills and confidence step by step. Children learn to sing, create their own music, listen to and enjoy different types of music, and perform for others. They also learn how to follow a conductor, talk about music using the correct words and share their musical ideas. Throughout their time at school, children explore music from a wide range of cultures, styles and famous composers.
In Early Years and Key Stage 1, music is taught through Sing Up and our WRPS Music Curriculum Model. In Key Stage 2, children are taught by a specialist music teacher, helping them develop their musical knowledge and talents even further.
We also offer many exciting musical opportunities outside the classroom. Children can take part in instrumental lessons with MusicMOB, Rocksteady and DCP Drums. They enjoy weekly whole-school singing assemblies and our annual Live Music Week. Children can also perform at Carols Around the Tree, Young Voices and local musical events with the school choir. These experiences help children enjoy live music, build confidence and share their talents with the wider community.
