Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I contact the school?

* Please do not use the school phone as some staff are working from home

* Please use:  admin@westonrhyn.shropshire.sch.uk (this will be monitored as usual)

* Please contact teachers via Class Dojo/Tapestry as usual

* Please do not visit the school in person (social distancing, limited staff)

* Parents who will be using the new childcare provision will be given a new email, to use during the school day.  This will limit the need to have staff always in the school office and allow staff to keep this email open in the class where they are based with the children.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What has happened to future planned school events?

All planned future school events are cancelled.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: I think I'm a key worker but I've not been identified as such, what do I do?

Advice from DfE "If workers think they fall within the critical categories above they should confirm with their employer that, based on their business continuity arrangements, their specific role is necessary for the continuation of this essential public service.

The employer (not the employee) should then contact the school.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Does my child have to wear uniform if they are in school?

No. Children should wear comfortable, safe and appropriate clothing in order to do indoor and outdoor activities (including access to the school field/Forest Area as appropriate). Children will not be getting changed at school, so please bear this in mind.  Parents sending children in to this provision need to concentrate on other things that are far more important than what to wear or school uniform.  If, however, school uniform is more convenient, then that is fine (although your child may not be a fan of this!)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Does my child have to come to school?
No. We are keen to keep the numbers as low as possible to lower the risk of infection and maintain our provision.  The school is closed and is offering childcare only. This wil be as flexible as we can make it. Parents may choose whether they use this or not and can choose their own hours within reason.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Are you operating during the Easter holidays?
This is to be confirmed based on availability of staff. We will determine this ASAP if possible.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What about school transport?
It is our understanding that eligible children will continue to be transported as normal.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: My child receives free school meals because of my income. What happens?
We have called all of the parents of children of free school meals (NB:  this is different from UIFSM - Universal Infant Free School Meals) to offer them food options in the first instance.  As the system is set up, FSM parents will receive a food voucher for a local store. More details to follow ASAP.  FSM pupils in the new provision will continue to receive a free school meal in school.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What about school lunches/packed lunches?

Unlike most other things, very little has changed here!   Children of key workers/vulnerable children may send in packed lunches as previously, or order a school lunch, as before.  As things stand, we have our usual kitchen staff.

Free School Meal (FSM) pupils in the new provision will continue to receive a free school meal in school (NB: those FSM pupils not in the provision have been contacted separately).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: When will things go back to normal?

We don't know. Schools are shut indefinitely.

We will keep in touch with parents via this page, Class Dojo and Facebook.

Please contact the school if you have any queries

Key information and FAQ for those allocated a place in

Weston Rhyn’s Emergency Childcare Provision

Thank you for confirming your status as a key worker over the weekend.  It has been a mammoth effort from many, many people to get this far, but we are nearly there.

We are looking forward to welcoming your child to our emergency childcare provision on Monday.  Here are just a couple of points, to help the first few days run smoothly.

Anyone who is ill, self-isolating/symptomatic MUST not attend & will not be permitted to enter school. I know you will appreciate why & support this rule, which will be rigorously enforced.

  • ANY PUPIL WHO STAFF BELIEVE IS UNWELL, WHETHER RELATED TO COVID19 SYMPTOMS OR NOT, WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO THE SCHOOL.
  • PARENTS WILL BE ASKED TO IMMEDIATELY TAKE THEIR CHILD/REN HOME
  • SCHOOL STAFF'S DECISION IS FINAL AND NON-NEGOTIABLE.
  • THIS IS TO BETTER SAFEGUARD ALL PUPILS AND STAFF.

ON THE FIRST DAY (23/03/20)

On Monday 23rd March, please arrive with your child(ren) at the front of the school at 830am.  There is plenty of space to spread out either on the footpath or the front of the school, to maintain distance from others.

Whoever arrives first is welcome to wait inside the small reception area by the office window.  Please could everyone else wait away from the bottom of the stairs until the parents/carers dropping off their children before you have come down the stairs, at which point, please take their place.

A member of staff (almost certainly me) will speak to you (through the glass window).  A list/register of those attending has been established, including whether evidence has been provided, and each child will be checked off against this.  Once we are happy with their eligibility (and the evidence of parental occupation that you have already sent to Mrs Holmes), you can say “cheerio” and your child will be “buzzed in” at the front door.  No-one else will be allowed in for sensible social-distancing reasons.

After Monday, arrival at school will run much smoother, but this will take some time. Please be patient, and ask if anything is not clear.

NO CHILDREN, OTHER THAN PRE-AGREED PUPILS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE SITE, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

AFTER THE 1st DAY (from 24/03/20 onwards):

From Tuesday 24th March onwards, please arrive at the black gate (as usual).  Just in case staff should ever forget to unlock this, please could someone come and get their attention (ie, at the front of the school).

Please space yourselves around the playground (large/KS2), for social distancing reasons.  All parents/carers and children MUST remain on the ‘top’ area (ie, do not come not past the white lines of the basketball court that lead down towards the wooden equipment and the hall/corridor doors)

Please ignore the automatic bells (over time, we will try and get these changed if this situation lasts for many weeks), and look out for a staff member opening the hall door (around 9am, maybe a little sooner).  When they open the door, the children only should enter the hall door with what they need.  Please say “cheerio” at the top part, where you have been waiting, rather than approaching the hall door yourselves.

All of this is a sensible precaution at a key time, when lots of staff, children and parents (all of whom are critical to the fight against Covid19), will be in the same place.  If you need to speak to staff, please send in a note with your child, or email the new email address noted below.  ‘Grabbing a quick chat at drop off’ will have to be put on hold for a while, I’m afraid.

ANY SESSIONS WHEN YOU DO NOT ABSOLUTELY NEED TO USE PROVISION, PLEASE KEEP YOU CHILD AT HOME AND SIMPLY EMAIL THE SCHOOL.

Key Information/FAQs (this may change, we are all in uncharted waters here)

Q: Does my child have to wear uniform if they are in school?

No. Children should wear comfortable, safe and appropriate clothing in order to do indoor and outdoor activities (including access to the school field/Forest Area as appropriate), so that ideally, they do not have to change (it is just one less thing to worry about for you and for staff).

A change of clothes is required, but just in case of accidents or very muddy PE sessions!  We just want it to be as easy as possible for you as key workers (and the children and staff on site).

Parents sending children in to this provision need to concentrate on other things that are far more important than school uniform.  If, however, school uniform is more convenient for you, then that is fine (although your child may not be a fan of this!)

PE: We are expecting to have regular PE sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays – though staff will take the option to do this on any day, as required.

Outdoor Learning:  We hope to visit our secure field and Nature area.  So, children may be asked to bring clothes and footwear (wellies, boots) that you don’t mind getting messy. (Though not on the first day, 23/03/20).  Sending a plastic bag to hold these, will keep these separate from other clean items.

Q: What else should they bring?

Morning snack: Please send your child in to school with a snack that is suitable for morning break. Something appropriate that they can keep in their pocket or bag.

Water Bottles: Children can bring in a labelled water bottle, that they can drink from during the day, and they must not share their bottles with others.

Home learning: if they have ‘home learning’ work to complete, we will try to support them to complete it over a week. As the group(s) is/are mixed ages & have different activities, this may not work however.

Q: How do I contact the provision?

* Please do not visit the school in person other than to drop off and pick up if you can help it (due to: social distancing, limited staff)

* Parents using the new childcare provision will be given a new email, to use between 9am and 3pm, whilst your children are in the new provision (ie – if you need to pick up early and need to let staff know).  Unless you need to, please try not to use the email, to allow staff to focus on the children.  Do not call please, as no one may be available to answer.  This will limit the need to have staff always in/around the school office.  Staff will keep this email open in the class where they are based with the children, but delays are likely as the staff will be prioritising caring for the children.

schoolcontact@westonrhyn.shropshire.sch.uk

THIS EMAIL IS ONLY FOR USERS OF THIS SERVICE.

The usual email address (admin@westonrhyn.shropshire.sch.uk) can still be used and Mrs Holmes will respond as previously, but due to her now working a mix of in school/home working, she may not always be in the office to pass on messages.

Q: What about school lunches/packed lunches?

Unlike most other things, very little has changed here!   You may send in packed lunches as previously, or order a school lunch, as before.  As things stand, we have our usual kitchen staff.

Free School Meal (FSM) pupils in the new provision will continue to receive a free school meal in school (NB: those FSM pupils not in the provision have been contacted separately).

Q: What about home time?

Please enter through the black gate as above for a 3pm finish (again, apologies if this is ever locked when you arrive).  To limit contact, please space yourselves and do not all wait in the enclosed gated part until the gate has been opened by staff.  Please follow the same ‘drop off’ guidance above, but do not arrive earlier than 2:55pm.  The drop off procedure will work in reverse.

NB:  DO NOT WORRY if you should forget to send them in with something.   Staff will sort it, and won’t be bothering you with phone calls for missing kit or wellies, rest assured!
